Nottingham has secured Purple Flag status for the 16th year in a row.
This national award recognises the city centre as a safe, vibrant and well-managed place to enjoy an evening out.
The Purple Flag accreditation, awarded by the Association of Town and City Management (ATCM), celebrates towns and cities that offer a welcoming, safe and diverse night-time experience. Nottingham’s success reflects strong partnership working across the city.
The University of Nottingham and Nottingham Trent University both play a key role. They support city safety initiatives, contribute to student wellbeing and work closely with Nottingham City Council, Nottinghamshire Police and other partners. Their community engagement teams and campus security staff help promote safer nights out and provide guidance on travelling home safely. They also support campaigns that aim to reduce anti-social behaviour.

Both universities also support wider city programmes like Safe Space services and off-campus patrol teams, offering help to anyone who needs support during the evening or night.
Purple Flag status also celebrates Nottingham’s rich cultural scene. Events such as Light Night attract thousands of visitors and help create a lively, inclusive city centre.
This continued accreditation shows how universities, public services and businesses are working together to keep Nottingham a safe, welcoming and enjoyable place to live, study and spend a night out.
