The new NIHR HealthTech Research Centre in Rehabilitation (RehabHRC) based at Nottingham University Hospital (NUH) is one of 14 HRCs funded by the UK government’s National Institute for Health and Social Care Research (NIHR). The NIHR RehabHRC works with partners University of Nottingham, Loughborough University, Nottingham Trent University and the Musculoskeletal, Surgery, Inflammation & Recovery theme of the NIHR Nottingham Biomedical Research Centre.
The NIHR RehabHRC with also be closely partnered with the Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH) sponsored National Rehabilitation Centre, bringing together representatives from University of Nottingham and University of Loughborough ‘To become a world-leading national centre of excellence for rehabilitation’.
What are our aims?
- To help patients undergoing rehabilitation recover faster and more fully using technology
- To support NHS staff with better rehabilitation equipment and techniques
- To build the UK’s rehabilitation technology businesses
How are we achieving them?
We’re an ideas funnel. Our experienced team will work with ideas from patients, health professionals, academics, inventors, entrepreneurs and the public to help develop rehabilitation technology. You don’t have to be a professional to work with us.
We can offer support to help you hone your idea into a clear question to research, a prototype to test, a product to market – or sometimes prevent time and money being wasted on an idea that might never work.
Our themes
We are proud to say we are covering the whole life course approach- from birth to death. So, our clinical themes are split into: childhood, working age and older adults. We also have cross-cutting technology themes allowing HealthTech companies access to world experts in: enabling participation, supporting rehabilitation and evaluating performance. Alongside all of this is our innovation funnel theme feeding technologies into the RehabHRC.
