Signs are now in place to mark the location of the new NIHR-funded HealthTech Research Centre in Rehabilitation (RehabHRC) at the Queen’s Medical Centre (QMC), Nottingham. Co-located with the Centre for Rehabilitation and Ageing at the University of Nottingham School of Medicine, the RehabHRC team is delighted to officially have a base and “be on the map.”

The RehabHRC is a collaborative hub bringing together researchers, companies, charities, patients, and the public to develop cutting-edge technologies that support rehabilitation after life-changing injuries, trauma, and illnesses. This initiative is funded by the UK government’s National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) with a grant of £2.8 million over five years, starting in 2024.

Collaborative Work at the Core

Hosted by Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH), the RehabHRC is working closely with the National Rehabilitation Centre (NRC) to advance rehabilitation science and practice.

Dr. Vicky Booth, Co-Director of RehabHRC, commented:

“It’s brilliant that the RehabHRC team can now be found and that we are in the same location as our Rehabilitation and Ageing colleagues. Collaborative working is a core principle within the NRC, and it’s great that we can start this even before the new hospital is built.”

When the NRC officially opens in 2025, the RehabHRC team will join healthcare practitioners, researchers, educators, and students to continue advancing rehabilitation technologies and practices.

Driving Innovation in Rehabilitation

Part of the RehabHRC’s mission is to connect with industry leaders, healthcare professionals, and individuals with lived rehabilitation experiences. To achieve this, the centre will launch a range of outreach and engagement activities during the five-year funding period.

Dr. Jacqueline Swift, Programme Manager for RehabHRC, shared:

“It is an exciting time to be in rehabilitation with technologies that are rapidly evolving. We are busy planning our schedule of innovation and engagement activities for next year as we hope to support the next generation of rehabilitation technologies.”

Stay tuned for updates on the RehabHRC’s initiatives and upcoming events aimed at shaping the future of rehabilitation.
